Service: Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
Type of impact: Service Change
Date Monday 31st May 2021 at 0700 hours
Change Ref: 3658155

Dear User,

Last year MITA implemented the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) across Government. This service can be used to reset one’s own password or unlock one’s account in case it was locked following a number of failed password attempts. The service requires two alternate methods of identification which a user must have in order to reset their passwords or unlock their account. The supported methods of identification are

  • mobile app notification
  • mobile app code
  • email
  • mobile phone
  • security questions

To date office phone number is also allowed, but this will be removed on Monday 31st May 2021 at 7am.  This action is being taken because it was causing several issues (users populating generic phone numbers instead of personalised numbers, users not having access to phone when outside office, etc.). To update your preferred methods of identification kindly go to https://mfa.mita.gov.mt/security-info/.

The SSPR service can be used by going to https://passwordreset.gov.mt/.

If a user does not register for the SSPR service, password can still be reset by contacting his/her IMU, however, this will take much longer.
