Today we shall be sharing the experience of two of our employees, Ryan John Zammit and Sarah Grech who have shared their captivating stories of competing in national and international sporting events.
Ryan John Zammit – TSO – Group Co-Ordinator, Service Management Department
“Being chosen for the national team to compete in the High Jump event is an incredible honour that signifies recognition for one’s hard work and dedication. The European Athletics Team Championships present a remarkable opportunity to compete against phenomenal athletes of a high calibre from all over Europe. It is an awe-inspiring experience to witness and engage with athletes who have honed their skills to an exceptional level. The competition serves as a valuable platform for learning, as it exposes athletes to different techniques, strategies, and approaches employed by top-level competitors. The chance to represent my country and participate in such a prestigious event is a privilege and motivates me to strive for improvement.
Sarah Grech – Officer Finance and Contracts Department
“I always liked sports and tried to stay active, but I officially started training football when I was 21 after I finished school and started my first full-time job. My journey started with 11-a-side football in the Women’s League where I spent three seasons. After that, I felt like I needed a change and switched to 5-a-side football where I participated in tournaments held in Malta and abroad. Recently, the association I form part of started working on the first Women’s Futsal league in Malta. It is an honor to be part of this huge milestone and to be able to make history with the rest of my teammates. In the meantime, I also had the opportunity to participate in a beach soccer tournament.
Throughout these experiences, I had my ups and downs, and I would be lying if I say that there weren’t times when I thought of quitting football and just focusing on other things. However, to stay healthy both physically and mentally, it is important to have the right balance in life and not just focus on work and/or education. When I started working at MITA, I appreciated the fact that it supports employees who participate in any kind of sports and was very excited to learn that the Agency organizes events such as one-day football tournaments. Encouraging employees to have a good work-life balance is the way forward!”
