by | Nov 9, 2023

In the fast-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, staying up to date with the latest techniques and technologies is not just a career choice, it is a necessity. Recognizing this, the Cybersecurity Skilling Programme operated by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre offers an exciting opportunity for individuals eager to dive into the world of cybersecurity. This program, set to run from 2023 to 2025, provides a variety of upskilling opportunities in cybersecurity, making it accessible to a wide range of motivated individuals.

The Cybersecurity Skilling Programme is a comprehensive training initiative designed to cater to both beginners and those with minimal exposure to the field. It encompasses various specialized and generic training courses offered throughout different time windows. These part-time training courses are structured around live online sessions, facilitated by professional tutors with extensive experience in cybersecurity. The programme also emphasizes on one-on-one interactions with qualified trainers, self-study hours, and regular learning assessments. This is a good opportunity as it is a valuable chance for learning, with the added incentive of receiving an academic certification upon successful completion. The program is open to anyone eager to learn and evaluate their determination in the cybersecurity arena. Eligibility criteria may vary from course to course, but unwavering commitment is a crucial prerequisite.

As a university student with minimal exposure to the field, I found myself at a crossroads, searching for a way to further my interest in cybersecurity. I had previously undertaken an internship with an information security team, which ignited my fascination with the industry. It was during this time that I began to experiment with Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges, a fun and interactive way to delve deeper into cybersecurity. These experiences made me realize that this field held immense potential, and I was eager to explore it further.

The Security Operations Centre (SOC) Analyst Training Course, forming part of the Cybersecurity Skilling Programme, seemed like the perfect opportunity for someone like me. It served as an ideal first step for gaining exposure to the world of cybersecurity, and it promised to broaden my understanding of its diverse domains.

The course’s structure and key modules are thoughtfully designed to accommodate a wide range of participants. It commences with a psychometric Pre-Assessment, ensuring that candidates possess the aptitude and motivation required to succeed. This initial phase identifies the top 15 candidates with the most potential, and they move on to the Foundational Course. This entry-level course covers critical topics over three weeks and includes modules on computing concepts, networking protocols, digital platforms, digital evidence, host intrusion analysis, network intrusion analysis, cyberattacks, and an introduction to reverse engineering malware.

What makes this course stand out is its inclusivity. It is structured to accommodate individuals from different educational backgrounds, and the instructors, who are experts in the field, ensure that the learning process is accessible and enjoyable. The course also features hands-on labs that allow participants to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, a crucial step in the learning process.

My experience in the SOC Analyst Training Course has been truly fulfilling. It has provided me with a better grasp of the basics of cybersecurity and equipped me with vital skills, which have opened new opportunities for me in the field. This course has been a valuable steppingstone in my cybersecurity journey, enriching my knowledge and enhancing my prospects.

I want to encourage other students to take the leap, even if they are not as proficient in the area initially. The NCC Cybersecurity Skilling Programme provides the ideal platform for individuals to start their journey, regardless of their prior experience. The support and guidance offered throughout the programme are invaluable, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to break into the world of cybersecurity.
