HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS

Through the Emerging Technologies Lab various seminars and hands on workshops are organised to increase the knowledge on Emerging Technologies such as 3D printing, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Virtual and Augmented reality and much more.  In addition, to further the discovery and learning, MITA employees, government officials and students have the opportunity to work on their idea through the Lab.  All this to continue a shift from using technologies to create technology, particularly emerging technologies.



AI HACKATHON​

As part of its mission to raise awareness amongst students on emerging technologies, MITA organised an AI Hackathon in collaboration with University of Malta and the Google Developers Group Malta.

  
 

MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY MALTA SHOWCASE EVENT

On 21st November 2018 the Emerging Technologies Lab collaborated with Middlesex University and hosted a showcase and expo event. MITA employees were given the opportunity to experiment in an informal environment with Augmented Reality, Touch User Interface and Robotics technologies.





GDG AR IN A BOX

On the 20th November 2018 the Emerging Technologies Lab collaborated with the Google Developers Group Malta and hosted the “Augmented Reality in a box event”. During the event three experts on Augmented Reality gave their speeches to a mixed audience.

   


INFO SESSIONS FOR MITA EMPLOYEES AND LECTUREERS AND START-UPS

During the first phase of its approach, the Emerging Technologies Lab held a total of 8 information sessions. Whereby MITA employees were introduced to the purpose of the new lab space, the phased approach it is undertaking, and the technologies and equipment made available.

Furthermore, these info sessions were also held to lecturers hailing from further and higher education institutions. With the intention for future collaboration between MITA and students who are studying or are enthusiasts of any of the technologies available at the lab. Another information session was also organised for the YouStartIT#4 group of start-ups with the same intention.



DELTA SUMMIT

Some of the Lab equipment was showcased at the DELTA Summit, this was very well received by the numerous delegates that visited the MITA stand.  Participants had the possibility to experience total immersion in a virtual reality world for many of whom it was the first time, making it more of an incredible experience.  In addition, projection of the MITA Data Centre was possible through manipulation of reality through the augmented reality headset Microsoft Hololens.

  



LAB LAUNCH

MITA has launched an Emerging Technologies Lab on the 2nd October 2018. Through an investment of €250,000, MITA and government employees, students and start-ups will have the opportunity to learn and explore various emerging technologies. The Lab has been equipped with a 3D printer, various virtual and augmented reality headsets, stations for microcontrollers and mini PCs that can be used for experimenting with Blockchain and mining.
