MITA organises a three-day e-Skills Fair

Publication Date: Apr 15, 2010

Blata l-Bajda, Malta – [ 15/04/2010 ]: The Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) today launched a three-day e-Skills Fair at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Valletta. Hon. Dr. Austin Gatt, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication (MITC) opened the fair by visiting the various stands and met all participants. This fair is part of an extensive e-Skills awareness campaign coordinated by the European Commission’s DG Enterprise and Industry.

Spearheaded by MITA, this event aims to raise awareness of the increase in demand for highly skilled ICT practitioners by presenting integrated information related to the initiatives and training services offered by leading private training providers and public entities within the ICT sector.

Dr. Peter Xuereb, Chief Officer of the newly set-up Human Capital department within MITA remarked that although interest in ICTs is flourishing amongst Maltese citizens, there is still the need of a platform for structured dialogue and collaboration between Government, the ICT industry and Academia. The aim of such dialogues should be to expand the ICT skills base in Malta and thus meet the highest global standards both at national and European levels. Dr. Xuereb acknowledged that the e-Skills Fair is one of but a few national initiatives and policies that are being undertaken to stimulate interest in the ICT sector whilst providing appropriate training avenues to Maltese citizens. Such events encourage the acquisition of e-Skills at any level of education – increasing individuals’ abilities in the workplace, and thus making business more competitive.

The target attendees - students who are about to leave compulsory education, young professionals, individuals who would like to advance their skills in ICTs, and those running SMEs - will be able to conveniently make their enquiries with representatives from leading stakeholders, and use the information received to make decisions for their respective futures.
The three-day e-Skill Fair will be running up till Saturday 17th April 2010.

Opening Hours:

•Thursday 15th April: 10am – 8 pm
•Friday 16th April: 10am – 8 pm
