A Successful MITA Information Security Expo

During the weekend Hon Dr José Herrera, Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth visited the Inforamtion Security Expo at SmartCity Malta, an event organised by the Malta Information Technology Agency. 

Parlamentary Secretary Jose’ Herrera said that Government gives a lot of importance to the subject of safer use of technology. During the Expo there were information and training sessions and even a four hour hackathon with the participation of thirteen teams made up of three participants each.  These participants ranged from students to ICT professionals and their goal was to find strategic points or vulnerabilities to infiltrate (hack) technological systems.

MITA's Executive Chairman, Mr. Tony Sultana and founder of TrustedSec Mr. David Kennedy were present for this event.  Mr. Kennedy is regarded as one of the international go-to experts with regards to information security.  He has twelve years of experience and he provides insight about the subject to a number of international news networks, such as Fox News, CNN, CNBC and BBC. He praised the initiative taken by MITA and hoped that further awareness on this subject will continue to grow in the future.

Parliamentary Secretary Jose’ Herrera said that Government intends to continue in its investment in ICT information security systems and is working to improve the related skill-sets of its human capital. He said that through this initiative, MITA continues to raise awareness in order to reduce the rate of people becoming victims of criminal or unlawful activity in the field of technology.

The Information Security Expo was held with the support of 6PM plc, eSkills Malta Foundation, Institute of Computer Education (ICE), Mediterranean Insurance Brokers (MIB) and TrustedSec.
