MCCFF launches a mobile app to reach the public and volunteers

The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, in collaboration with MITA, today launched a mobile app which will serve as a communication tool to reach the public and volunteers.

#13: Making the Internet a safer place for our children

In a drive to make the Internet safer for its users, especially for younger children, a campaign titled “Think before you click” was launched in Malta and supported by a number of entities.

Official launch of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition

On the 1st of December, the European Commission hosted the launch of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, a new partnership bringing together all stakeholders and Member States who are committed to reduce the digital skills gaps in Europe. The Executive Coordinator of eSkills Malta Foundation, Carm Cachia, as a member of the sub-group of the Member States who worked on the “shared concept”, was asked to hand over a copy of the shared concept to Commissioner Günther Oettinger.

Over 6,000 students participated in events encouraging coding…

While delivering words of encouragement to young coders who put his coding skills to the test, the Minister for Competitiveness and Digital, Maritime and Services Economy, Dr Emmanuel Mallia stressed that “The Hour of Code” should not be the only event held throughout the year.

Enabling local councils with tools  on how to use social media

The Malta Communications Authority, in collaboration with the Department for Local Government, has launched #Webcheck, a project aimed at providing all local councils with the necessary tools, training and official guidelines on the use of social media.

Free Wi-Fi service available from more than 80 sites in Government departments

In an initiative to increase internet accessibility, the Maltese Government and MITA have launched another free Wi-Fi service in more than 80 sites in Government Departments.

Mobile Government – the way forward

On Monday 21st November, the Principle Permanent Secretary launched the Mobile Government Strategy for 2017-2018. This strategy puts forward the Government’s plans for the provision of public services over mobile devices (mServices) for the next two years and is another building block in the achievement of the ultimate vision of providing access to 24x7 public services from anywhere.

Gaming – as the next leap in learning

Compliance under the General Data Protection Regulation...

Under the current EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC, and the Data Protection Act (Chapter 440) of the Laws of Malta, there is no mandatory requirement for companies or public authorities to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO).

An increasing number of news organisations using “bots” to write their articles

Throughout the US Presidential election campaign, many news organisations have used algorithmic systems to create text from data which is collected and automated “bots” to send these generated news updates to smartphones.

#10: TED Talks - inspiring, challenging and thought provoking

TED stands for: Technology, Entertainment and Design. This started way back in 1984 with a conference set up. However, as time went by, it developed into a powerful 18 minute-long lecture by experts in a particular sector, delivering various insights into a plethora of themes such as life aspects, technology advancements and their promotion in every day experiences, life coaching tips, etc.

MITA participates in the President’s Fun Run 2016

A group of MITA employees have participated in this year’s edition of the President’s Fun Run. This charity run is organised on an annual basis to raise funds in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Neural networks inventing their own encryption to send secrets messages to each other

A team of researchers from Google have shown that machines are learning their own way how to protect their messages through encryption. In this way, they are being able to send secret messages to other machines, while avoiding that anyone intercepting these messages can possibly understand them.

European privacy regulators request Facebook to stop sharing information from WhatsApp

In August, Facebook changed the privacy policy of the WhatsApp messaging service. Since then, European Union privacy regulators have expressed their concerns and now they have called Facebook to stop sharing data from WhatsApp while they investigate about the legality of these changes.

MITA hosts a two-day training on the harmonisation process of spatial data
