Wide Area Network (WAN)

The Malta Government NETwork (MAGNET) is the Government’s secure and private Wide Area Network (WAN) that interconnects all ministries, departments, entities and embassies and provides connectivity to the Core Network within MITA Data Centre. MITA provides more than 640 remote sites with fibre optic connectivity services with very high bandwidth speeds and safety net redundancy options. For small to medium size local area networks, MITA also provides broadband connectivity services through DSL or cable technology at various bandwidths. It also assists government employees in securely carrying out teleworking over the public internet with the use of VPN technology. This provides security mechanisms to encrypt data when individual or mass switch to remote working is required.
