MITA serves as the digital security consultant for the Government of Malta.

The Agency provides measures to safeguard Government’s digital assets through a comprehensive risk management approach that ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data. It is entrusted to extend this function to international-scale events organised by the Government of Malta.

It collaborates with various national and international bodies to acquire and share the necessary intelligence and serve as the Government Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT). It operates a digital security facility to protect, detect, respond and recover from security incidents.

The Agency uses specialised tools, and is equipped with governing frameworks, policies and disaster recovery plans. It provides government ministries and entities with specialised digital security services such as investigations and recovery from cyber-attacks.

MITA sits on the Cybersecurity Steering Committee and runs an intensive awareness campaign across different sectors at a national and government level.
